The ENUM trial in China is led by Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of the People's Republic of China . September 2002, CNNIC started running 6.8.e164.arpa server in China. December 2003, CNNIC set up and published the forepart ENUM trial system, which is used for study of ENUM registration, resolution and application.

ENUM is the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) protocol that will assist in the convergence of the Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) and the IP network. It provides a global addressing mechanism which stores E.164 numbers in DNS as domain names and maps the domain names into series of URI records.

In order to study the ENUM service architecture adapt to China and promote ENUM demonstration implementation, October 2006, CNNIC upgrades ENUM trial system including www.enum.cn website.

The new trial system is run under 6.8.e164.arpa, and provides EPP-based registration through ENUM registrar. Users can register ENUM domain name and correlative services, experience sending Email, visiting website, dialing IP phone, fetching vCard etc. applications by ENUM. Besides, this website introduces Carrier ENUM and ENUM Enterprise Application.
